Assumption of Command Ceremony for New Commanding General at Fort Riley

There will be an Assumption of Command Ceremony for Major General Joseph M. Martin on October 18th; the 1st Infantry Division Deployment Ceremony will also take place.

Martin was named the Commanding General at Fort Riley after an investigation led to the removal of Major General Wayne W. Grigsby Jr.

Major General Joseph M. Martin

Major General Joseph M. Martin graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in West Point in 1968. Most recently, Martin served as commander at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California.

Martin has prior experience with the Big Red One commanding the 2nd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division from Fort Riley, and according to his National Training Center bio he deployed with that command to Baghdad, Iraq.

Martin has also served as the Deputy Commanding General at the United States Army Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

The Assumption of Command Ceremony will begin at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 18 at the Calvary Parade Field on Fort Riley; the 1st Infantry Division Deployment Ceremony will immediately follow.

The 1st Infantry Division is set to deploy to Iraq.
