Riley County Arrests December 5

The following summary of calls for service/reports filed by the Riley County Police Department is a portion of those received by police.  Some names, addresses, and case details are withheld to follow local, state, and federal law as well as in an attempt to protect community members from being victimized further.  Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

MANHATTAN, KAN. – 

On December 2, 2016, officers responded to the 1100 block of Moro St and found that Speed Wash Laundry had been the victim of a theft. An unknown suspect took a coin counting machine sometime between 9:00 PM on November 30, 2016 and 8:00 AM on December 1, 2016. There were no signs of forced entry. The total loss was approximately $1000.

On December 2, 2016, officers responded to the 2500 block of Browning Ave and found that Anthony Middle School had been the victim of a theft. An unknown suspecrcpdt took an Apple iPad Air 2 sometime between 4:00 PM on September 21, 2016 and November 17, 2016. The iPad had been placed in a drawer and was found to be missing after a routine inventory. Total loss was approximately $380.00.

On December 2, 2016, officers responded to the 5500 block of Skyway Dr and found that Hertz had been the victim of a theft. A suspect had rented a white 2016 Chevy Sonic from Hertz on October 14, 2016 and was supposed to have returned the vehicle on October 21, 2016. Total loss was approximately $12,085.00.

On December 2, 2016, officers responded to the 800 block of Commons Place for a report of a theft. Dorian Hooks, 23, of Manhattan, was issued a citation for theft. Taken was $750 in gift cards, which were then used to purchase an iPhone 7 and a Playstation 4. Total loss was $1230.00.

On December 2, 2016, officers conducted a traffic stop and recovered a white Volvo XC70, which had been reported stolen from the 1500 block of College Ave. The Volvo was returned to its owner, Joshua Adrian, 19, of Manhattan. Four suspects fled from the vehicle and Arayah Gauna, 18, of Manhattan, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for probation violation.

On December 3, 2016, officers responded to the 1000 block of Bluemont Ave and found that William Geary, 21, of Manhattan, had been the victim of a burglary. The burglary occurred sometime between 12:00 PM on December 2, 2016 and 5:45 PM on December 3, 2016. William reported that an unknown suspect took an Xbox One, two controllers, and an AR-15 rifle with a total loss of $1500.00.

On December 3, 2016, officers responded to the 900 block of Humbold St and found that Derek Stock, 28, of Manhattan, had been the victim of a theft of a motor vehicle.l Derek reported that his black 1991 Ford F-150 was taken  by an unknown suspect while parked in front of his residence sometime between 1:30 PM and 9:30 PM on December 3, 2016. The total loss was approximately $500.00.

On December 4, 2016, officers responded to the 2300 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd and found that Daniel Brazil, 25, of Kansas City, Kansas and Reginald Simmons, 25, of Kansas City, Missouri had been the victims of theft. Brazil reported that an unknown suspect took his black leather jacket, which also contained his vehicle keys. Simmons reported that an unknown suspect took a black and white Nike backpack which contained a platinum chain, a Springfield XD Mock 2 .45 caliber firearm, and other miscellaneous items. The total loss was approximately $1600.00.

On December 4, 2016, a 23 year old female reported that she had been the victim of sexual battery by a male not known to her. The female reported that her 22 year old female friend had then been battered by the same suspect. The investigation into these crimes is still ongoing.
