On November 30, 2016 at approximately 1:15 pm a citizen was walking the paths at Helland Park in the 1300 block of West 8th Street when he observed a subject lying on the ground unresponsive with apparent injury.
Officers were dispatched to the location and observed the victim, later identified as 21 year old Joseph Michael Nelson, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
The JCPD believes this death was not criminal in nature, but a complete investigation is being conducted. An autopsy is scheduled for December 1st.
