Old Saint Nick made an early trip to Fort Riley Wednesday morning to help kick off Operation Santa Claus.
For 32 years the Fort Riley community has helped children and their families by providing gifts during the
holiday season. Each year the program helps hundreds of military families who might not otherwise have the means necessary to celebrate Christmas.
“We set a time for the families to come here to pick out the toys that they need for their children,” said Master Sergeant Michael Ewing. “They get two toys per child, and then we’ll actually gift wrap them and carry them out to the car. That way they have something for Christmas.”
Over $85,000 in toys has already been donated, however more donations are needed, especially toys suitable for teenagers.
If you would like to donate to Operation Santa, the program is asking for new, unwrapped toys in a $15 to $20 price range. Donations will be accepted until January.
