Blizzard warning on Sunday for Riley, Pottawatomie and Jackson counties

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning from 6 a.m. Sunday to 6 p.m. Sunday for Riley, Pottawatomie and Jackson counties including the cities of Manhattan, Wamego, St. Marys and Holton.

Blizzard conditions are expected. Total snow accumulations of three to five inches are expected with winds gusting as high as 45 miles per hour.

Plan on slippery road conditions, and areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

A blizzard warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or are occurring. Falling and blowing snow w2ith strong winds and poor visibility are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.

Junction City and Geary County are under a winter weather advisory for Sunday. Snow and blowing snow are expected with total snow accumulations of two to four inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph could cause near blizzard conditions. Numerous counties in north central and northeast Kansas are under the winter weather advisory.
