Union Pacific Railroad will host a special presentation on Monday, November 6 at First Territorial Capitol, 692 Huebner Road to express our appreciation for those serving in the Armed Forces, and acknowledge our commitment to veterans. As part of the event, the recently unveiled UP1943 commemorative locomotive will be on display at Fort Riley as it makes its maiden voyage on the UP system.
Throughout Union Pacific’s history, we have had a close connection to our nation’s armed forces and the men and women that fill their ranks. From our founding by President Abraham Lincoln to the present day, veterans who defended America have come to Union Pacific to build America. Nearly twenty percent of our employees have previous military service.
Kansas Secretary of Transportation Richard Carlson, Colonel John Lawrence and Union Pacific Assistant Vice President Liisa Stark will deliver remarks as part of a short program. Photo ops and individual remarks may be coordinated after the program.
The UP1943 will remain on-site for public viewing until 6 p.m. Please visit http://www.riley.army.mil and click on the yellow “Accessing Fort Riley” tab on the right-hand side of the page for installation entry requirements. Visitors may also go to the Visitor Control Center at exit 301 off of I-70, for proper credentialing and directions.
