The following summary of calls for service/reports filed by the Riley County Police Department is a portion of those received by police. Some names, addresses, and case details are withheld to follow local, state, and federal law as well as in an attempt to protect community members from being victimized further. Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
MANHATTAN, KAN. – Taken into custody by the Riley County Police Department on September 13, 2016 were Kyler Nations, 16, of Ogden, Kansas (battery) and Preston Peters, 17, of Manhattan (aggravated assault). Both juveniles were released to parents/guardians. Officers are investigating the incident which involved a pocket knife being brandished during a verbal and then physical altercation in the 2100 block of Poyntz Ave (no significant injuries were listed). Police listed victims as being a 17-year-old male and a 16-year-old male.
Keith Smith, 19, of Ogden, Kansas was arrested while at 100 Courthouse Plaza in Manhattan on September 13, 2016 at approximately 2:20 PM. Smith was arrested on a warrant for the offenses of criminal possession of a weapon and over maximum speed limit. This warrant originated in Mitchell Count, Kansas and had a bond of $10,000.00. He was not confined at the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.
