The Riley
County Police and the Kansas Highway Patrol conducted a sobriety checkpoint in the early morning hours of September 10, 2016 in the 300 Block of Bluemont Ave. in Manhattan KS. The checkpoint was designed to identify impaired drivers and remove them from the roadway.
Four hundred eighty-seven (487) vehicles were stopped in the checkpoint between the hours of 2345 and 0240 hrs. Of those fourteen (14) were evaluated for DUI. Of those, eight (8) were arrested for DUI. Three additional subjects were arrested. Two (2) for possession of a controlled substance and one (1) for driving while revoked. There were four citations issued for transporting an open container of alcohol.

The Kansas Department of Transportation provides funding for the checkpoint through a grant.
