Celebrate long-standing traditions with Kansas State University alumni, students and their families at the university’s annual Family Day, Saturday, Sept. 24.
“K-State Family Day is a great time for students to interact with their families and share traditions with them on campus,” said Mindy Weixelman, director of parent and family relations. “Whether families come for the day or for the entire weekend, students will be happy to see family and participate in this year’s variety of events.” 
Campus tours and other events will give students the opportunity to show their families around the Manhattan campus and engage in traditions that are focused around family. Two events that are long-standing traditions of Family Day are the legacy pinning ceremony and Family Time in Cat Town.
The legacy pinning ceremony recognizes the commitment of K-State families across generations and concludes with family members pinning current K-State students as a symbol of shared loyalty to the purple and white. Family members who are not K-State alumni will be honored with K-Stater by Choice recognition. Brunch will be served before the program and ceremony. The ceremony and brunch are from 10-11:30 a.m. in the K-State Alumni Center ballroom.
The cost of the ceremony and brunch is $15 per person and registration is required by Friday, Sept. 16. Register online at bit.ly/2cJV6G9.
The 11th annual Family Time in Cat Town pregame event, sponsored by HyVee and Payless Shoesource, will begin at 4 p.m. in the southwest corner of Bill Snyder Family Stadium prior to kickoff of the K-State vs. Missouri State game. Students, their parents and family members can tailgate with K-State administrators and other families while enjoying great food, door prizes and a photo booth as well as the opportunity to purchase drawing tickets to win $2,000 toward tuition.
The cost of the tailgate is $15 per person and registration is required at bit.ly/2c4WAvX prior to the event.
New Student Services will give tours of the Manhattan campus from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting in the Berney Family Welcome Center’s Great Room on the east side of Memorial Stadium, and various colleges and departments will host free activities throughout the day. The Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for an open house, and visitors can participate in a free self-guided gallery activity at the museum.
In addition to Saturday’s events, the Kansas State University Gardens will host September Stroll in the Gardens from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at the Gardens, 1500 Denison Ave.
