City of Manhattan to receive SHAPE award

ansas Department of Labor for the Safety and Health Award for Public Employees (SHAPE). A ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. July 12 at the Larry Norvell Band Shell in City Park. KDOL Secretary Lana Gordon will present the award. The event is only open to city employees.

What is SHAPE?
SHAPE was established in 2012 and is administered by the Industrial Health and Safety division of KDOL. The City of De Soto was the first recipient in 2012, and the City of Lansing was recognized in 2014. The program is designed for public entities, which are cities, counties, USDs, and state agencies. To qualify, an entity must have a comprehensive safety inspection and meet certain levels of requirements for organizational employee injury rates and employee lost time rates. Each entrant has five achievement levels in which to strive beginning at the Kansas level, then proceeding to the Sunflower, Bison, Star and lastly, the Diamond level.
