At 11:04 a.m., the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to 122 Kopp Drive for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found a one-story residential structure with smoke showing and fire venting from a rear window. Crews entered the structure and quickly extinguished the fire. The fire was contained within 15 minutes with a total of 18 firefighters responding on 6 fire apparatus.
A juvenile occupant of the structure was home at the time of the fire and was able to exit without injury prior to arrival of fire crews. The occupant was alerted to the fire by smoke alarms. The residence received an estimated loss of $75,000 to the structure and $25,000 to the contents. The owner is listed as ELG Enterprises LLC of Little River, Kansas.
The cause of the fire is undetermined, but is suspected to be accidental due to an electrical malfunction. The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office assisted with the fire investigation.
