It’s fun for all ages at the 10th anniversary celebration of Kansas State University’s Challenge Course from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, June 4, at the on-campus course, which is part of the university’s Recreational Services.
The celebration is free and open to the public. Activities will include cake and ice cream; the chance to explore and try out the course’s high and low elements; and opportunities to win prizes and giveaways. Willie the Wildcat will be on hand from 2-3 p.m., and radio station Power Hits 97.5 FM will have a live remote.
Participants must be at least 8 years old for the low elements and at least 12 years old for the high elements. Each participant should wear closed-toe-and-heel shoes and appropriate athletic clothing. All youth must have a signed waiver by a parent or guardian. Waivers are available at recservices.k-state.edu/challengecourse/10year.html.
Over the course of its first 10 years, the university’s Challenge Course has built a reputation as a great place to take staff, students or groups to help develop teams and enhance group dynamics, said Travis Redeker, associate director of program management for Recreational Services.
“We would like to thank all of the groups from around the region who have joined us for a day of adventure at the Challenge Course in the past 10 years,” Redeker said. “The Challenge Course serves around 3,000 participants throughout the year.”
The course is an experiential adventure program that offers groups and individuals the opportunity to engage in a series of personal development and team building activities. A challenge course, commonly referred to as a ropes course, is composed of wood, poles, cables, logs and belaying systems that are used for activities such as ice breakers, group initiatives, and low- and/or high-element challenges.
Kansas State University’s course offers customized programming that caters to people of all ages and physical abilities. Groups are led through the course by our trained facilitators. It is open year-round, seven days per week, provided there is daylight and appropriate weather.
The Challenge Course is on Jardine Drive, just east of the university’s Child Development Center. For more information, contact Redeker at tredeker@k-state.edu. For waivers and more information, visit http://recservices.k-state.edu/.
