The Manhattan Fire Department is starting its annual fire hydrant maintenance program. Crews will be flowing and painting fire hydrants throughout the City until late fall. The fire hydrants are flowed every year to ensure their proper operation and to flush out the water lines. fire hydrants in your area, run water in a bathtub or shower for a few minutes or until the water runs clear. If the water does not clear up, contact the City of Manhattan Customer Service Office at (785) 587-2480 or the Manhattan Fire Department at (785) 587-4504.
Please use caution when you are in the area where crews are flowing fire hydrants. The water flowing from the fire hydrants may be at a high enough pressure and volume to cause damage to vehicles if driven through the flowing water. Children should be advised not to play in or ride bicycles through the flowing water.
